From the 19th to the 21th of july the parish priests of Rulenge-Ngara diocese were invited to follow a training about conflict resolution by peaceful means in Biharamulo. Objective of the training was to improve the personal skills in peace building and reconciliation for the daily work in the parishes. The respect of human rights and the importance of inter- religious dialoge were also subjects of the three days training, organized by the dioceseon Justice and Peace department and facilitated by Fr. Innocent Minani, the executive secretary.
In a second step, Justice and Peace department will also train the members of the Justice and Peace comites at parish level to able them to assist the priests in promoting peace and reconciliation in the communities and the families.

Introduction

The department is charged with the responsibility of coordinating and supporting all the social and economic development programs in the diocese. The main functions of this department include provision of technical mentoring and facilitation of planning processes, monitoring and evaluation interventions.

The coordination processes are supposed to function within the context of the Christian mission of evangelization that emphasizes the enhancing of well being of mankind in a holistic approach. That is to say, evangelization within the diocese is closely related to the day-to-day social, cultural, and economic environments.
This challenges the office to ensure that socio economic activities are integrated with pastoral services in the light of the Mission and Vision of Rulenge-Ngara Diocese.

The webmaster, Marcus Herz, welcomes everyone to the website of the Rulenge-Ngara Diocese in the Kagera region in western Tanzania. The diocese is located in the greate lake region of Lake Victoria. On the western side is Burundi and Rwanda. The Website is created in coorperation with the in Munich located organization BDKJ and the diocese of Rulenge-Ngara over the German "Weltwärts" program. For the website the under free GNU GPL license software drupal is used.

Profile of Rulenge-Ngara Diocese Development Office

Rulenge-Ngara Diocesan Development Office (Rudido) is charged with the responsibility of coordinating and supporting all the social and economic development programs in the diocese. The main functions of this office include provision of technical mentoring and facilitation of planning processes, monitoring and evaluation interventions. The creation of this office came up as a result of the need to enhance the impact of community development initiatives at various levels and in particular at the beneficiary level.

The initial coverage of Rudido activities will be all the area under Rulenge-Ngara Diocese which covers three ecclesiastical deaneries namely, Chato, Ngara and Biharamulo. The majority (on average 90%) of the population in this area live in the rural areas where the conditions of living are generally poor.

CHEMA is one among the 6 development programmes and its main focus is Natural Resources Management and Sustainable Agriculture to enable the community of Rulenge-Ngara Diocese in 80 selected villages to manage their own natural resources towards increased productivity social – economically and in a sustainable way.

History of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rulenge-Ngara

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Rulenge-Ngara is  located in the Ecclesiastical Province of Mwanza in Tanzania. Formerly, Rulenge-Ngara Diocese was a part of Rulenge Diocese that was originally a part of Bukoba Diocese. The Diocese of Bukoba  was first established as an Apostolic Vicariate of Bukoba from the Diocese of Tabora in Tanganyika and an Apostolic Vicariate of Uganda in Uganda on April 8, 1929. It was raised to the status of a Diocese on December 13, 1951 and the part of Bukoba Diocese that would later form a major part of Rulenge Diocese was renamed as Lower Kagera (Rutabo Diocese) under the late Bishop Alfred Lanctot, M.Afr.
